Rare diseas day
#rarediseasday
The XII Rare Disease Day has a broader perspective this year:
The key theme is Equality, meant as access to equal opportunities aimed at enhancing the potential of people affected by a rare disease. The first Rare Disease Day was celebrated in 2008 and 29 February was picked as “rare day for rare patients”. This year, after 13 years, we are going to celebrate again on the rarest day of the year.
People affected by a rare disease, who are a few if divided per pathology, amount to more than 300 million in the world and make up the third largest nation.
According to the Regional Registry and the 2019 MonitoRare Report, people affected by rare diseases in Italy are more than 780,000 but it’s estimated that they could arrive to be more than 1,200,000.
